News:2007Thursday, November 22, 2007Juxtapose IV finally complete.
After numerous delays (mostly of my own making) Juxtapose IV is "finally" complete. What was originally supposed to be a July print date, slowly crept through August, September, October and finally, through most of November before the ink was dry. Everything from the move to the new apartment to financial setbacks to juggling the schedule of a new part-time job kept pushing back the final print. Also, the level of detail in this particular piece was considerably greater than the previous three prints. However, life seems to have slowly worked back into its groove and I am excited to start work on the next print. Like the other prints in this series, Juxtapose IV is an edition of twelve prints and measures 15 x 15 inches, printed on Black Stonehenge paper. Saturday, September 15, 2007Bill joins Loomis Art Store.
While many may regard the artist's life as glamorous, in its own Bohemian manner, the reality is, life as a "starving artist" usually just leaves you hungry. This is not to say that the past few years haven't been good. On the contrary, the decision to pursue my dreams was one of the wisest I've made. However, there are still the practical needs in one's life — like food. So... It also doesn't hurt that the store is only two blocks away and provides me with supplies I can afford. Friday, August 03, 2007Bill adds gift boxes to his repertoire.
In an effort to diversify his offerings, Bill is now taking orders for custom-designed gift boxes. These gift boxes are one-of-a-kind delivery vehicles for those special items and occassions. Each is specifically designed for your particular requirement. These are not mass-produced boxes — they are designed and created entirely from scratch. For more information and examples, check out the newest section of the Web site, or contact Bill directly to arrange for a consultation. Tuesday, July 10, 2007New studio location!
On Monday, July 09, Bill moved into a new flat at the Windsor Arms apartments at 150 Argyle Avenue. The new location is at the corner of Argyle and Metcalfe, just steps from the Museum of Nature, and only a block from Elgin street. "Ever since I moved to Ottawa, I have always wanted to live in the core of the city. Now, some eighteen years later, the dream has finally been realized." The apartment, in the historic 1930 structure, has a southern exposure and is bathed in natural light throughout the day. It is an ideal location in which to work and take inspiration. Anyone wishing to see Bill's work in person may make an appointment to visit the studio by contacting him directly. Tuesday, June 12, 2007Juxtapose III now complete.
The third print in Bill's latest series is now complete and ready for framing. Juxtapose is a series of serigraphs being produced in small editions of twelve. The two-colour prints are created by screening two permanent acrylic inks onto 240# Black Stonehenge artists paper. Each colour must be hand-stenciled directly on to the screen by applying drawing fluid with a paint brush. Once the drawing fluid has dried, screen filler is then coated across the screen. When this dries, the screen is washed with cold water, dissolving the drawing fluid, but not the screen filler. The result is that the screen "opens up" wherever you have painted the drawing fluid. Now, you have a perfect stencil to draw the ink through by pulling it across the screen with a special squeegee. After the first ink colour is pulled, the screen is prepared for the second colour and the process begins again. Check out Juxtapose III in the gallery section of this site. Version 2.0 of this Web site has finally gone live. Users will notice a significant difference between this version and its predecessor. Namely, where I previously spent an inordinate amount of time learning HTML and other associated technologies, then validating code, checking against browser compatibility, etc., I have now taken something of a retroactive approach by employing the latest version of iWeb for the Macintosh. HTML purists will undoubtedly cringe at the very thought of building a site with such a clunky "image-based" tool, but I have to say, it is infinitely more user-friendly; tends to validate across all browsers and platforms; and, it just plain works. Okay, so the code may look like a dog's breakfast, but in the end, I should be spending more of my energy on producing art, not code. Stay tuned for periodic updates, including new resource sections and a more interactive news/blog feature. Thursday, March 15, 2007Daily Painters adds Bill as a Link Partner.
Micah R. Condon, Webmaster at Daily Painters Gallery, recently sent an email stating that he had seen my site and added it to their links directory." Their goal is to bring together a small group of talented, dedicated artists, and use the group's energy and marketing power to attract customers and sell their artwork. They believe that a small group working together with a focused plan can have tremendous sales potential. | |
