A New Miniature Challenge

Despite promising my sweetheart a Desert Dream Home Diorama in time for her birthday, she has insisted that I put that project on the back burner (temporarily) so that I can enter the latest iteration of the International Miniature Challenge on Facebook.

This version calls for a miniature in any theme we choose but, it must be created as an automaton. This is a handmade item which is typically set in motion by a hand crank attached to gears, pulleys, and wires.

This art form became a speciality of my great-grandfather who built amazing automata in the 1930s and 40s.
